A Home Within

A 110+ page art publication created to showcase Emilie Kim's ceramic New York installation "A Home Within"

The Vision

Born and raised in Sacramento, California, Emilie Kim is a Korean-American artist whose work reflects the complexities of her bicultural identity. She earned her MFA in Ceramics from the State University of New York at New Paltz and her work has been exhibited in spaces including the Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art, Main Street Art Gallery, and Basement Gallery. Emilie’s MFA thesis “A Home Within” is an impressive collection of work dedicated to her identity and family. The goal of this project was to not only showcase the final installation but also share Emilie’s research, process, and technical information that came together to create the thesis. This project showcases the final installation of Emilie's research, process, and technical information, through visual storytelling and sculptural immersion.

The Process

With a week turnaround, we worked diligently to compile the 150+ images, 30+ page text document, and multiple “recipe” sections. The images were resized to correctly fit the page size while the text was separated into sections, creating an almost story-like experience for the reader. As Emilie finished installing her project, I worked closely with the printer to ensure the final product was up to our standards. The project was successfully completed within the week timeframe.

The Deliverables

The client received two 106 page hard-cover catalogs printed on gloss paper to better showcase the intricacies and vibrant colors of her work.
